Schletty
Minneapolis, MN - Graphic Designer / Trance
Chris Schletty has been a crew member for Sound in Motion (SIM) since the spring of 2005. Under the name Schletty Ink. he has designed many of the DJ flyers found floating around town and SIM ads found in the City Pages. He also works with promoting and developing events and sending out flyers to various regional locations for the out-of-town peeps.
Schletty was born at St. Joseph's hospital in St. Paul, MN on March 4th 1980. For two years he and his parents lived in St. Paul. From 1982 till 1998 he, his parents and only sibling, Beth, lived in Rosemount, MN. It was not until his senior year in High School ('98) that Schletty became interested in DJ'ing and the music that surrounds it. During this time he could be found frequenting First Avenue's SNDP (Sunday Night Dance Party).
In the fall of '98 Schletty moved to Grand Forks, ND to attend the University of North Dakota. During his four-year tenure in the flatlands Schletty became involved with the many areas you would find in a college atmosphere. He sat on the student senate as a senator to the aerospace students, was a member of various university committees, sat on the university senate, wrote for the student newspaper (The Dakota Student) and was heavily involved with his Fraternity (Delta Tau Delta). During his sophomore year in college Schletty picked up his first set of turntables and practiced non-stop. It was also at this time that he religiously attended the parties that one could find within the midwest rave scene.
Later, as the rave scene died out in the midwest, Schletty continued on in Grand Forks collaborating musically with others. Holding parties at various houses in town and DJ'ing at his fraternity's parties was the story for a while. During his junior year in college Schletty worked as an overnight DJ for a radio station (KZLT and KCNN) with one of many of his job descriptions entailing the production of an on-air morning show. Thereafter, with a push from his friends, he became one of two DJ's for a newly opened nightclub called DV8.
As a club DJ for over 2 years Schletty maintained a balance of old and new dance, electronic and hip hop music adjusting it very well to the enjoyment of 100+ college students that would be there at a time. (It was no "DJ Fader" stuff either) In May 2002 Schletty graduated UND with a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Science. Thereafter he applied through the Federal Aviation Administration to be an air traffic controller. During early 2003 Schletty trained at the FAA's main school in Oklahoma City. In May 2003 he came back to the Twin Cities area where he still works as a controller.
Schletty continues to DJ mostly sticking with music in the trance variety. Currently living downtown Minneapolis, Schletty is steadily hopping back on the DJ horse after having been off it for three years due to his previous training commitments in keeping the skies safe.
As stated by Schletty "I did all that a DJ could do in Grand Forks. From getting others involved, throwing our late night parties, the weekend road trips to raves in the middle of nowhere and DV8 it was the most one could do in such a town. I am hoping to take my talents in Minneapolis a lot further. Working for SIM has given me that opportunity and also the chance to be a part of a fabulous group of people dedicated in providing Minneapolis with the best DJ's in the world."
